| 1. What is the SEGA NAOMI system? |
| The
SEGA NAOMI System is Sega's Dreamcast hardware for the arcade, it is basically
a Dreamcast with twice as much memory, it is Capable of accurately playing
2D & 3D games. |
| 2. What is the SEGA NAOMI 1/2 GD-Rom system? |
| The
NAOMI GD-Rom is an add on for the NAOMI that greatly expands the library
of games, there are 2 items to the GD-Rom setup as follows:
The first is the GD-Rom unit, it attaches to the side of the NAOMI. The 2nd item is the DIMM board, this attaches where a normal NAOMI cart would, it is a Cart that is full of RAM. The NAOMI GD-Rom initially loads the game onto the DIMM
board, this removes any additional loading after the power up load,
well that is if your battery back-up has not died, if so you have to
re-load evertime the system is powered up. |
| 3. What is the NAOMI 2 system? |
| The
NAOMI 2 system is the NAOMI's big brother. It has twice the memory as
the NAOMI, and is fully backwards compatible with all Naomi and GD-Rom
games. |
| 4. How much does a SEGA NAOMI system cost? |
| How
much does a SEGA NAOMI system cost?
Expect a price tag for the Motherboard to be around $100, Naomi 2 should be around $350 & the Gd-Kit $290. The cartridges/GD-Roms will run anywhere from $10 up to $400. The Capcom I/O board runs for about $150-$200, the better option for most gamers, the cheaper Sega 1 can be found for as little as $100. Goto www.xe.com
for exchange rates for your country. |
| 5. Is the SEGA NAOMI JAMMA-compatible? |
| NO.
The NAOMI is JAMMA-2 Standard. It outputs a video signal of VGA, and the
controls are USB. BUT! with a simple I/O converter it can be. Check HERE
for additional information on I/O boards. |
| 6. Are the NAOMI - Dreamcast conversions perfect ports? |
| Not
always. Most of the time the ports are "arcade perfect", but
some games (like crazy taxi) require more memory than the Dreamcast has,
thus some quality must be lost in order to port the game. |
| 7. How do I play the SEGA NAOMI setup on my TV? |
| You
need a machine called a Super Gun, which is an RGB->NTSC converter, and JAMMA harness all in one! BUT REMEMBER! the NAOMI's video signal outputs VGA standard! This means that you can simply plug your NAOMI into your computer monitor without any converter. |
| 8. What's the current status of the SEGA NAOMI? |
| The
NAOMI Cart system is no longer supported. Games are still being produced
for the NAOMI GD-Rom, as well as its big brother, the NAOMI 2 Cart System
and There GD-Rom games. |
